I formerly had Walmart as my ISP, 56K phone modum service. I used it for over a year uneventfully. During the week between Xmas and New Years 2005 it suddenly ceased to function.

My local Walmart store informed me that my area was no longer a Walmart ISP service area. They had pulled the plug on me without warning. So, I signed up with Adelphia high speed cable service. Once I was back on line and confident in the new service I decided to uninstall the Walmart software. It was taking up 186MB of disk space on my D: drive. It would not uninstall.

The Control Panel "Add or Remove Programs" utility couldn't find the Walmart installation even though the Walmart icon was present in the "Currently installed programs:" list. I looked in the "wmconnect" folder. There was a link to an uninstall program. I clicked the link, nothing.... I followed the link path and looked in the destination folder, no uninstall program there. I found the notepad INSTALL document and there was a record of the Uninstall program being installed in the folder where the link was pointed. Where did the Uninstall program go??? Did Walmart hack my computer and erase it?

I tried simply deleting the Walmart folders but that corrupted Internet Explorer and I had to do a System Restore back to a point before deleting the folders. I no longer had the Walmart CD so I can't reinstall to replace the uninstall utility then uninstall. This leaves me with no way to rid my computer of 186MB of worthless software.

Has anyone else had this problem? How did yo solve it? Could someone e-mail me the Walmart Uninstall program? Has anybody actually uninstalled the Walmart browser? How did it work? Any thought or suggestions? Thanks in advance for you help

Walmart probably didn't hack your computer, but some files the uninstall option needs are probably missing. Try going to tools->folder options in IE, going to the advanced tab, unchecking "enable 3rd party browser extenstions". Then try renaming (so you can just rename them back if it causes problems) the walmart folders, and see if that still causes errors in Internet Explorer.

    Best of luck!

Success!! I found the original Walmart installation disk so I was able to regenerate the Uninstall routines (there were two of them) and successfully performed the uninstall. Thanks to all for your suggestions. LGJ
