Way To Identify Compatible Stylus For Touchscreen?

I recently purchased a HP ENVY 13-y023cl x360 for use in grad school.

When I check the HP website for compatible stylus, it's not listed on HP's Stylus Compatibility list. Which, according to their site, means that there is NO compatible active stylus. I find that difficult to believe.

I'm sure there are some of the generic pens that will work, but I'm really looking for something to take notes (specifically math notes) with, so I don't want something that writes the width of my finger or is unprecise. The research I've been able to do tells me I need to find an ACTIVE stylus to do what I'm looking to do... (as opposed to the basic capacitance stylus you can get for a buck or less.)

I really don't want to get one with the weird disk at the end because I know it would
    a) be distracting/annoying and
    b) I would break it.

I'm hoping to find one like the pen for the Surface 3/4. But short of just buying a $40+ pen and trying it out, I'm not certain how I can find what I'm looking for.

I contacted HP sales and they tried looking it up... said they found no compatible pens in their documentation and told me I had to contact a specialist (phone calls only). I dialed the number and hung up after being told my wait time was 45 minutes right off the bat.

    Any advice?

    Thanks!

I went through the Compatibility List at HP. Guess what, your model isn't listed. :(

I... yes. I know it isn't listed. But it makes no sense to assume that this screen is SO special and proprietary that no active stylus will work. There aren't that many different ways to make this technology.

I was hoping someone would have advice on how (or if) I could figure out what pen works.

HP's list does not include any stylus that is HP branded. It's a marketing thing. They won't recommend a stylus that doesn't specifically have their logo on it.

The stylus the HP guy suggests is an expensive version ($18) of the $1 generic, capacitance stylus.

I guess I will either have to bite the bullet and buy an expensive one to "test" it... or just go without.

    Ugh...

Or, buy a non-HP tablet that actually does what you expected the HP to do.

Be sure to post at a few places that the "advertising" by HP on this tablet is false, since they fail to provide directions for a stylus that works. I think your complaint is legitimate.

Did they advertise it as stylus compatible?
