I think many are like myself, knowing these songs without knowing who is behind the music.

I agree and many years ago when You Tube hadn't been invented and when Alta Vista was the main search engine I kept having the song 8675309 or Jenny Jenny stuck in my head and it was many years before I discovered it was by Tommy Tutone.......in the end I discovered it by accident in the 1990s when I found it on a greatest hits of the 1980s album lol
    For old time's sake....

In the 60's the radio stations played the songs. I'm not sure they ever mentioned the artists. Now when I listen to the Choice Music channels on Comcast/Xfinity, I'm surprised at the artists I never knew. If you quizzed me, I wouldn't have a clue who the artist was.
    Fontella Bass - Rescue Me
The Zombies - Time of the Season
    ? and the Mysterians - 96 Tears
The Angels - My Boyfriend's Back
Lennie Welch - Since I Fell for You
Billy Vera & the Beaters - At this Moment
Maurice Williams & the Zodiacs - Stay (got a boost up in the film Dirty Dancing)

I saw him back in '99 - amazing concert! Kenny was 22 years old and on his way up.

I also managed to catch Stevie Ray Vaughn and Double Trouble back in '88, in a small theater that held about 1,000 people. We lost him way too young.

Can't number the days I started or went through part of my workday with this song (the older 1974 version) in my head.

Why these three songs? Just stuff I was listening to today.

Never paid much attention to Weird Al until I saw/heard this:

Here's a song written by the late, great Townes Van Zandt (he appears in this video, twice as a Federale and, near the end, the guy playing a guitar. This song first caught my ear in a performance by Ruth Shorter on a Sunday night at The Sagebrush Inn in Taos, New Mexico, back before the turn of the century as us old timers say. Back in those days the walls there were covered with old western paintings, a Navajo rug and a Navajo rug or two. On cool evenings the lovely asymmetrical fireplace would be burning, filling the air with the scent of pinon and cedar. I heard Michael Hearne/South by Southwest many nights at the Sagebrush back in those days also. Anyway, here's Willy and Merle doing there fine performance of Pancho and Lefty.

Finally here's a fine song song sung by Mary Black, written by Bob Dylan. Why these three songs? Just stuff I was listening to today.
