    Hello Majorgeeks,

My web browser, specifically Mozilla is running very slowly. Either my internet is either slow (not sure of this as my wifi works super fast on my phone) or my web browser is consuming too many resources but it seems almost impossible for a page to load. I have had these problems on and off for the last 2 months. When I ran the read and run me about 1 month ago the problem seemed resolved only to return a couple of days ago. I have uploaded all files except TDsskiller. When trying to upload I get a message that the file is empty.

    Thank you for your help.

    Jay

Uninstall the below programs. If you do not find them or they will not uninstall, just keep going.
    YTDownloader

Please download OTM by Old Timer and save it to your Desktop.
    • Run OTM.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, Win7 or Win8, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).
    • Copy the lines from the below codebox to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy): Do not include the word Code: which is just a title line of the code box
    • Make sure that you scroll all the way to the bottom of the code box to get the whole fix!
    Code:
    :Processes
    explorer.exe

    :Services
    BrsHelper
    Lhghao
    sbmntr

    • Return to OTM, right click in the Paste List of Files/Folders to Move window (under the yellow bar
      ) and choose Paste.
    • Now click the large [IMG] button.
    • If OTM asks to reboot your computer, allow it to do so. The report should appear in Notepad after the reboot.
    • Close OTM.
Now navigate to the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles folder ( assuming your Windows drive is C). This is where your log will be
saved in the form of Date and Time mmddyyyy_hhmmss.log. Just look for the most recent .log file. Attach
this log file to your next message.

Now please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.
    • Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
    • Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista, Win7, 8 or 10, right-mouse click it and select Run as Administrator.
    • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
    • Note: That JRT may reset your home page to a google default so you will need to restore your home page setting if this happens.
    • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
    • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
    • Attach JRT.txt to your next message.

Now rerun a scan with Hitman Pro and if it still reports Malware, Malware remnants, and Potential Unwanted Programs then activate the 30 day free trial license and use it to remove all these items. Then IMMEDIATELY reboot your PC. After reboot, run a new scans with both Hitman Pro and RogueKiller and save the new logs to attach.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, Win7 or Win8, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    • the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles log
    • the JRT.TXT log
    • the Hitman Pro log
    • the RogueKiller log
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

Before what? The last fix? Or the infection?

In the last fix, a folder was removed for Family Tree because they stupidly install their software in an inappropriately named folder that is common to what malware does. The put their data in the below folder:

    C:\ProgramData\{3F06E471-FD45-4DB4-83A5-E68D149EA29F}

Whereas they would be a lot smarter to put it in a folder named:

C:\ProgramData\Family Tree Maker 2014 or even better just C:\ProgramData\Family Tree Maker

We will have to try restoring this if you really use Family Tree.

You still have a ShopperZ infection to remove. Please download the latest version of FRST the below link.

Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.

Note: Make sure you download the proper version ( 32 bit or 64 bit ) for your PC. Only one will run, the correct one. So it you make a mistake and download the wrong one, go back and get the other.
    • Double-click to run it. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
    • Press Scan button.
    • It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please attach it to your next reply.
    • The first time the tool is run, it makes also another log (Addition.txt). Please attach it to your reply.

Almost forgot.... after running the above scan with FRST, please to the below:

We are going to run the Windows System File Checker program.
    • Hold down the Windows Logo key while also pressing the r key ( Windows + r ).
    • This should open the Run dialog box. Type c:\windows\system32 into the Open: box and click OK.
    • This should open up a Windows Explorer window with the system32 folder shown.
    • Scroll down in this window until you see the cmd.exe file ( should have a little black command prompt window icon ).
    • Right click on cmd.exe and select Run As Administrator. If you get prompted about running this, just approve it.
    • Now in the command prompt window type the below and click OK. Note: There is a space after the sfc.
      • sfc /scannow
    • This runs System File Checker which looks for missing or corrupted system files and attempts to replace/repair them from files on your hard disk or from the CD if necessary. So it will ask for the Windows CD if it needs it.
    • When it finishes, you should just see the command line prompt return.
    • Reboot your PC after this has finished running.

Now rerun a FRST scan just like in the previous message and attach another FRST log.

    Hello Chaslang,

The search feature worked before the fix but then not after it. Familytree is not needed.
Here is the FRST log after running the Windows System File checker.

    Thanks,

    Jay

You're welcome. I would attempt to uninstall Family Tree then if you don't use it.

Running SFC has fixed the ShopperZ infection.

So I assume when you said the search function that you are referring to Windows 10 Cortana ? Is it off? Can you just use the below method to turn on?

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-ca/windows-10/turn-cortana-on-or-off

    Or the below:

    https://social.technet.microsoft.co...t-speak-or-listen?forum=WinPreview2014General

And if you are not referring to Cortana but rather Windows Search, you may have to stop Cortana and then kill the process to get Windows Search to work. See the below.
