For a dumb down version use Microsoft Frontpage. Just like Word but your making a website so it'll be a lil bit different than what your used to.

Macromedia Dreamweaver is excelent for editing code and managing your website. Its got a file manager which you can use to synchronise files the same as any good FTP program.

Personally, I don't use the WYSIWYG editor much, appart from previewing table layouts occasionally. I use it purley to edit code. It supports ASP, PHP, Javascipt and good ole HTML code hilighting for ease of use. I use it just about every day for jobs ranging from placeholder pages to whole websites, not failed me yet! :)

I use it for the same reasons, but don't save anything in it. It generates too much "white space", that when saved distorts or changes the way it looked when previewed. DreamweaverMX isn't as bad as previous versions, but it still irritates me unless you're writing something extremely simple. The preview function in invaluable though :)
