    Hi,
My internet connects without any problem but it will not load any webpages with either IE6 or Firefox. I have done the usual reset to default settings, virus and spyware checks, LSP fix, clean with CClean, etc to no avail. I am rather desperate but still not keen to re-install WinXP/reformat the hard drive. I would appreciate very much if someone can offer his/her expertise to help me to resolve this.

Below is the Hijackthis log. I don't see any problem in them except having AVG and Avast together (They are together there for nearly a year there without any problem though!).

Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600)

if you have a router, reset it (soft reset so you don't lose your settings). something eerily similiar happened to me once and after a router reset all was well.

    Thanks, Acejones.
I am using a dial up connection, which works fine and will connect without any problem. It is just the webpages that will not load up. Ping doesn't work either.

How long has it been playing up? If recent you could try doing a system restore.

it sounds like your browser is opening but you are not connected online.are your telephone number typed in the setup right?does it bring up your isp box?

    Thanks for the replies.

It has been 'stuffed' for nearly 3 weeks now. It can do the system restore to the previous 2 weeks but not any dates older- so the system restore won't help.
I have also tried winsock reset/repair, they are not helping either.
It dials up and connects to the isp OK. In the isp box, if I run the browser, I can see data being send out but none comes back. Also if I leave the isp connected for long over an hour without the browser running, about 100 kB of data (observed on the isp box) will be sent out and received. If this indicates a virus or malware, it has to be a smart one that nothing manages to find/track it.
It looks like I am running out of options.

    Hi tunered,
Nope. The diagnostics say it is working OK.
Ad-ware can still update the definition file in the background but all the other antivirus and even MS antispyware can't. This shows something is blocking the sites from being loaded up. Then I don't understand why ping won't work either!

Yes, I have tried iefix. It didn't work either. A friend said my XP registry may have been corrupted but I don't know how to edit them. What I have read on the MS website seems to be too daunting.

    Thanks Franklin.
I'll give them a try before doing a complete re-install or use an axe!
