Weird Win 7 Issue

When Windows boots it seems to be booting into another user account but it says it is booting in my account. The settings, wallpaper, and everything else is back to stock even though it is supposedly logging into my main account none of my "stuff" is visible and when I do access a program it acts like it has never been opened before. I can still access all of my data and programs in explorer, open all my files and run my programs, but none of my personal settings survive. This reset seems to happen every single time I reboot my computer because changes I make don't carry over.

At first I assumed it was a virus so I ran the malware removal protocols and found nothing. I thought it might have been a power surge after that but I can't find any evidence that my hardware is functioning improperly. So now I'm back to "Windows did something weird" or it's a virus that I can't detect.

I don't see any new user accounts that would explain this but I've never encountered anything like this before. Any suggestions would be welcome.

    Hi

I would start of with your assumption that this could be malware still and run the below and attach the logs requested in the guide to a new thread in the malware forum and once our malware experts give you the all clear and your PC is still behaving weirdly then post back in this thread and we know from then you are malware free so can look for other explanations.

But do get malware free OK first before trying new troubleshooting tasks and those can compound and hide the true issue.

    What DavidGP said for sure.

Definitely strange. Sounds like what the system sandboxes like ToolWiz TimeFreeze do. O/C that would have to be running, and you have to approve the rollback with TF.

Whatever it is, it would be interesting to find out. If you remember, please post the fix here like if it's a virus or whatever...

    :)
