So, what is everyone using for personal file encryption on Windows and Linux platforms these days? Just took a quick look at PGP, and at minimum $79/year for their Desktop subscription, it's a far cry from the time when encryption was freely offered to users.

What schemes are en vogue these days, and what's the best techniques for protecting local data? Yeah, got all the usual firewalls and such in place, but in IT we frequently move data between sites, and encrypting the data itself seems to be the only safe way to move it.

Take a look at OpenPGP and GPG as a replacement option for PGP. For File encryption I use AXCrypt of Windows, as far as Linux is concerened I have not felt a need to look for a file encrytption program.

I use Mp-Crypt which cost me about 5 bucks a few years ago and which I recently got a free upgrade for as a registered user. Google for it and have a look at it - think you will find it meets all your needs.
    Cheers
