What backup program to use?

I frequently try software, which eventually screws up my registry. I want a program to backup my c: drive onto a dvd-r so that I can format the drive and restore the original pristine copy of windows without reinstalling everything all over again, preferably from the backed up copy on a dvd-r. OR...as I have more than one optical drive in my computer, is there a way to create a bootable cd with the backup program on it, and then restore from a dvd (I am using ntfs)? I know someone else must have faced this at some point, can you guys give me your opinions on which is the easiest (and cheapest) program to use. While money isn't a real serious issue (I don't mind paying for software which actually does what it is suppossed to, as oppossed to something like DOS 6 which screwed up my computer with it's dopey compression scheme), I would of course prefer not buying something that has to be registered each time I restore windows. Thanks, Don

I would recommend you to use Acronis backup utility and as you can see, not only i alone.
It has a lot of benefits about which you can read on the website, the thing which i like most in this program is the interface. It's simple and comfortable to use. I read somewhere, that during backup it compresses data more than any other program of this sort, this is also a big benefit.

Thanks. The price is right, hopefully everything will work. It's worth a shot.
