   I have a Dell Dimension E510 running Windows XP (did not upgrade to service pack 3, found it to be very slow) with a 144 GB hard drive. I want to add a second drive because this one is getting full.
   
   What brands of hard drive do you suggest I look at? I called Dell and they said I have a SATA currently. I want to get something in the 300 to 500 GB range.

   I personally like Western Digital hard drives and list is here (do shop around for best price) and go for one with 3GB/s transfer speed, last one I installed in my desktop was one of these WD Green 1TB, but they have them in 500GB sizes. The WD Caviar Blue are also ok model, WD VelociRaptor's are superb for speed and I have two in Raid0 but I wouldnt personally use them as a secondary HD more as the main C: Drive.
