    The CPU you can have?

Hey all - I have a question about the type of CPU my MOBO will support

    I have a Gigabyte Quad Royal GA-8N-SLI X16
    http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Awards/m...oductID=1957&ProductName=GA-8N-SLI Quad Royal

On the CPU support list it says Core 2 CPU's are not supported
    http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/...oductID=1957&ProductName=GA-8N-SLI Quad Royal

This I took to be the case as it was published on Gigabytes web site, even though I was a little disappointed as I have only had this MOBO for less than a year and it wasn’t cheap!

The reason I am saying all this is because the chipset on the MOBO is
    NVIDIA Nforce 4 SLI x16

A friend of mine is interested in upgrading so I was browsing the NVIDIA web site looking at the Nforce 500 series when I stumbled across the comparison chart (link below)
    http://www.nvidia.com/attach/686441?type=support&primitive=0

If you look at the comparison chart for my chipset it says that my chipset DOES support the Core 2 CPU!

So my question is this = Is it the chipset that determines the CPU that you can use? In which case Gigabyte suck for putting duff info on the web site

    Or

Are Gigabyte correct and I can’t have a Core2 for another reason

    Thanks in advance Geeks

The chipset is not the only limiting factor for CPU support; you're hoping to install a dual-core CPU on a motherboard that wasn't designed for it, so you'll just have to accept that, or buy a motherboard designed for a dual-core CPU.

Wish I had better news for you, but sometimes, things just don't work out the way we want them to...
