What is a vulnerability and how do you fix it

Hi all please be patient with me as i am a complete novice on computers - i am trying to get security on this one and have downloaded the trial version of Kapersky - it is saying that i have 5 x vulnerabilities and gives code numbers 30832 and 31010 which point in the direction of downloads for Java and Adobe? - i have no clue what i am supposed to do in regards to these downloads

Can someone explain what exactly a vulnerability is and how you fix the problem - also is Kapersky complete security all that i would need on this computer to ensure complete security i know i have to pay for it but i hoped that it would do everything that is needed to protect the computer without me having to do anything as i have no clue about these things.

 

Thankyou for your help i went to the Majorgeek section about Malware and how to ensure your computer is safe etc and sorted out my computer using by following what was detailed their and i have now managed to update the two softwares that needed sorting - i ran a full scan and everything is now clear - thankyou for your help
