Since you know some HTML, maybe you could try JavaScript (which is similar to Java or C++) or VBScript (which is based on VisualBasic, which has many forms) in your HTML code, to create dynamic content. These scripting languages can also be used to control Windows.

A Visual Basic form called VBA is also in programs in the Microsoft Office suite to make macros. IMO, It has a better debugger than HTML scripts in most browsers, and interactive help, so you may want to start there if you're going to try VB.

I personally like JavaScript best as a scripting language, and Java or C++ best for real applications, although Java was easier for me to learn, especially for graphical stuff.
