What is this in my system tray? Today, I found this (see attached image) next to the operating system clock. It comes and goes with the clock as I display it or not. Pardon the poor quality of the picture. It does NOT show on a screen print so I had to try to take a picture. Weird! Win XP SP2 with updates turned off for some time.
    Thanks

Don't know what it is, but I recommend a "Guttmann" for your drive.

Then, re-install Windows; AND KEEP IT UP TO DATE.

Use AVG Free as an anti-virus, AND KEEP IT UP TO DATE.

Most systray icons give you some information if you have the pointer over it.

You can also try to right-click and see what menu appears.

P.S. there are easier ways of making a screenshot than taking a photograph; the result will also be much clearer.
    1. press the Print Screen button on your keyboard
    2. open Paint or a similar imaging application
    3. paste the clipboard content into your imaging application
    4. crop the screen part you want to show
    5. save the resulting image as jpg or png

I haven't installed a thing. I did download a couple of iTunes apps in preparation for buying an iPod, but zero has been installed on this computer.

The dot/globe will not show on a print screen. WEIRD

That IS weird! And nothing appears when you hover over it? Right-click?

correct - nada. It acts/looks like it is part of the clock. On a temporary basis tried installing Tclock which goes in the same place and it was on that one too - like anything in that area or any clock *shrug*
