    Hi,

A white line has started to appear in my Compaq Presario monitor. Probably because i wiped the keyboard with a humid cloth (water/vinegar) - not kosher.

Question is: Should i change the cable or get a new monitor?

    Decisions, decisions! :confused

First I would try a different mother if you have to to rule out the possibly of a bad video card. Keyboard would have nothing to do with the monitor even if you broke it.

    pclover,

I've tried it on an external monitor and it's okay.
My hunch is to go for the lcd cable within my notebooks' monitor.
But reading things on other forums etc. doesn't make the decision easy.

Is the line vertical or horizontal?. Does the screen otherwise blank out?.

It's a vertical line ossy and it seems to be overlapping the graphic images presented by the monitor, at least the impression the movement gives.

I had a thin white line running down the center of my CRT a long time ago, turned out to be a corrupt driver. I hope that's all it is.

I just did a fresh install and that line was there before.

BTW, the rest of the screen is just fine as usual.

It very well could be a faulty monitor, possibly in the frame output stage. IF it is with
labour charges it could be quite expensive. Try borrow a monitor is the best way.
I had similar fault & it was the monitor. Treat your selt to a flat screen, this also
    stopped my headaches. Good luck.

Maybe i'll just try and change the LCD cable and take it from there.

Expenses go up rapidly in the repairs arena.

Sorry DaComboMan, forget what I said about frame fault, I thought you was talking about
a CRT monitor. I had my idiot cap on, OSSY.

    No problem.

HP support is now looking into my problem (even if warranty is long gone).
Hopefully they'll be able to help out a poor soul.
