Hello, I have win xp, service pack 2, AVG, Sygate, Ad-Aware, Spybot, and more.

Recently my Sygate firewall has been telling me that someone is scanning my computer. I found this neat little program, Who Is, that tells me who is scanning me.

This IP address,61.152.158.125 is constantly scanning me, day and night and it is annoying. Since the program I have gives me info on this co, I am soooo tempted to email or call these people and tell them to CUT IT OUT.

Here is what Who Is has given me:

    inetnum: 61.152.156.0 - 61.152.159.255
    netname: SHANGHAI-GLOBAL-NET
descr: Shanghai Global Network Co. Ltd.
    country: CN
    admin-c: JY81-AP
    tech-c: JY81-AP
    mnt-by: MAINT-CHINANET-SH
    status: ASSIGNED NON-PORTABLE
    changed: ip-admin@mail.online.sh.cn 20020819
    changed: hm-changed@apnic.net 20040927
    source: APNIC
    person: Ji Yi

Does anyone know who this co is or why they chose me to scan? Man I just wish people would just stop messing with computers that don't belong to them! Any advice would be appreciated.

Okay, I've read the links. So, they are really not attacking me but my IP. Am I right? Is my computer vulnerable or is there something else I can install to protect it?

I pass my Sygate security tests. I still don't understand exactly what these people are trying to do. Are they trying to steal info from my computer, if they break through my firewall?

Man, I have a headache...

Usually they just trying to bog down your network with attacks like this.

You disable the ability of your system to answer incoming ICMP packets (commonly called pings).

Do you have a router installed? How do you connect to the internet (dial-up, cable, DSL) ?

I have cable (Cox cable) and I do believe that Sygate is good for blocking pings, right? I run the security tests about twice a month and pass them.

I also lurk here and install things you suggest for security. I guess as long as I stay updated, I'm safe...

As long as Sygate is blocking them you should be okay.

Do you have a router inbetween your Cable modem and your PC?
