Im installin 98SE on my laptop. Everything is goin fine until this pops up:

    File copying Problem:
You interrupted Setup while it was copying windows file from Setup {.CAB] file.

I can click ok, cancel, skip file, or details. This happens with several files ( i click skip) until i get to one that i cannot skip.

This happens at 14% completion. At that point the cd drive stops the whirring noise. I didnt touch ANYTHING.

Whats wrong, and how can i fix it? Thanks.

Ouch. Sounds like the disk is damaged. Hows it look as far as scratches go? You can try cleaning the disk using rubbing alcohol. I use a piece of toilet paper wetted with alcohol. Gently wipe the disk from the centerhole outward. Hopefully that will get it to read ok.

I used my skip doctor. It isn't in that bad shape. How much does the 98se cd cost (if i hafta buy a new one)?
Also, could it be the HDD itself? It's 2yrs old and has been formated and restored at least 3 times. Will that even do anything to the HDD itself?

Reformatting and reloading wouldn't hurt the HD. Most of us geeks do ours several times a year, to clean out the cobwebs.
As far as getting a new disk, ask friends if they have one. You'd be surprised at how many people have them banging around.
Otherwise you can CAN find them on the net, if you do a search. Prices vary tremendously.

RAM is also a huge factor in Windows OS installs. I have seen laptops that were working just fine with the current RAM need new RAM for installing Windows.

I'm sure you you're reporting your RAM the way you've seen it, but the fact is... you can't have 182MB. It's not possible. 182-128=54. We believe you... it's just Windows reports your RAM differently. We'll take it that you have 192MB... that's one 128MB stick and a 64MB stick.

That sounds good. I'll get it from a friend.

It says I have 182, even though i have the 64 and 128 stick. Crazy windows.
