Why so many different types of anti-malware software?

Moved to software for a wider audience as this area is more dedicated to the actual removals of malware.

But to answer your question and its a goodun, its likely due to so many different types of malware around that all-in-one antivirus applications at this point just dont cut it, so up sprang many specialist tools directed into specific areas of malware as you mentioned Rootkits, Trojans etc these tools that are directed at a specific area, tend to do well in removals of said malware.

Actually you should care and its not getting rid of it, its more so IMHO not being infected in the first place thats important, so in that vain some info....

How to Protect yourself from malware!


and make sure your Antivirus and Security applications are fully upto date, keep your Operatings System fully upto date, and big one is surf safely and make sure you trust the website your downloading software from, if using p2p (peer2peer) then you add a large risk in something not being what its title says it is or imbedded in many cases with malware.

If using an Instant Messenger app, dont add new people you dont really know, dont accept sent files via messenger apps unless you really trust the person, dont open email attachments.
