i have a hl-dt-st dvd ram gsa-h55n and whenever i burn something (anything except for rw's weather it be cd-rw dvd-rw it won't give me any trouble)

whenever i try to burn a movie, music cd, data disks it will either not start or it will start and burn a little bit and stop smack dab in the middle of the process and i heard that it might be that the recording speed is too fast but i have an automatic burn speed detector on all the programs i have been using, but also whenever i do lower the speed it stops earlier than it did in the process before

what is wrong with this drive

    We really need more info....
Is this a new problem? Is this a new drive? Did it ever work normally? What programs are you burning with? Have you tried different brands of blanks? Have your tried uninstalling your burning software and reinstalling it? Have you uninstalled the driver from the Device Manager and restarted, letting Windows reinstall the device? What version of Windows are you running? What service pack?
    etc etc etc etc

    :confused

Just a thought, I had a Dell that came with some burn program that included (DLA?), it used to want to format all my discs as soon as I inserted them. That was ok for RW discs but for -+R discs it was a bad thing.

So basically if you are pre-formatting R discs don't and just let your burn program work from the disc straight out of the box.

This is the only thing I can think of on this problem. If it doesn't apply, maybe someone else has an idea. rolleyes

    Hi barononeefdip,

You seem to have SOOOOOOOO!!! many problems with your system, hardware, software.

Why don't you just save what you can and format your HD and start all over again? I, and many others have been watching your posts and have noticed that you don't seem follow any normal procedures.

sorry guys if i am breaking rules again but i really need help with these things as for your suggestion i have tried reformatting a hard drive to clean it up and reinstall windows on the extra one i was talking about, then it keeps on displaying a message saying that it can't be formatted (i'm getting frustrated)

and the dvd burner (on subject here) has worked the first year i have had it on my system but strangely it has been doing what i have described on my first post here, it won't burn anything all the way except for rw disks (it doesn't ask to format the disk as i saw someone ask that question) it will just start the burning process and half way in to the process it will stop (and the LED on the disk drive stops blinking so i know that it has completely stopped and it's not my computer being slow) but then it works on the other computer i have in this house (it's not mine so people are always using it and i have been going through alot lately just to burn a simple dvd video. i was thinking that after i get my new salvaged hard drive and reinstall windows on it i thought that all my problems will be solved after starting over completely, but it turns out i need help doing that to (i have restructured a hard drive successfully before so i am confused as to why this is happening, and how to fix it
