win 7 home prem to win 10

got a notice from microsoft , wasn't a scam . if i have win 7 home pre do i have to pay for 8.1 to up grade to win 10 ? rolleyes

 

many thanks for the advice , do you know if classic shell 8 will be crossing over to 10 , sorry just can't get into the tiles

 

Win 10 is not ready yet, so the final components are not known.
You should be able to upgrade for free if you do it early in Win 10's release.

 

At this stage in the Win 10 game the most useful thing to do is run the Win 10 Technical Preview. This can be done with a dual boot, or running it in a virtual machine, or on a spare computer. You will then be able hit the ground running when it is finally released and are far less likely to make mistakes in the early stages of setup. Speculating about the method of distribution or installation is rather pointless just at the moment.
