    Ok so iv screwed up.

I changed a laptop from a domain to a workgroup and now cannot login :(

Now i know if i took the laptop to the old network and reconnected there i could log in.

Trouble is the network/business no longer exists!!

I dont know the local administrator logon either.

Does anyone have any suggestions other than wiping it.

    Reason for not wiping it:

The laptop has a piece of software installed on it i need and i do not have the installation file/disks

alternative solution would be to somhow rip the software out of the machine and install it on the new formatted os. But i dont think this is possible :confused

Any suggestions or help would be much appreciated.

Thankyou for such a fast reply.

I have tried the NTISO you suggested but it seems not to work for me :/

I am going to try the other piece of software and see if this works.

another thought crossed my mind. Is there anyway to do a system restore on XP whilst being locked out?

I have always had good luck with hiren's boot cd. It has a ton of different tools on it. Including password resetting tools.

I think they are up to HBCD 14 now. It is totally free and its nothing but open source, share ware and free ware programs.

    Hope this helps

Hi Sach2 thanks for your reply, Yes that is exactly what happened. However when the programs list the username none of them give [ADMIN] next to anyof the accounts. Promoting an account to admin does not change this.
