    Hi,

This morning my computer came under attack and my desktop background changed to a warning about Win32/Adware.Virtumonde and some other privacy thing. I have toiled all day reading about similar problems and attempting the solutions and nothing has worked. I can't do a system restore as it seems ALL of my restore points have been deleted. Downloading software or googling from the computer has been a nightmare as all webpages and google searches re-direct :( I have successfully run a scan with AGV and superantispyware (both downloaded today in reponse to this problem) in safe mode and both programs found and supposidly killed rouge software, etc. My background no longer displays the warning but rather a blue screen that can't be changed. My restore points aren't back and my web pages also redirect and I can't successfully log into anything (hotmail, facebook, etc). In short I think I need specialist help.

It seems you guys like to start with a hijackthis log file and I've successfully got one for you. It should be clear I need my hand held through this process so your help would be grately appreciated. I use my computer to make a living so this is fairly important...thanks :)

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Please uninstall HJT as it will be properly installed when you do the following:

Please follow the instructions in the below link and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

    • If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going.
    • Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not.
READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

    Notes:

    1. If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode. You can running steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:
    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools on another PC and burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.

Thanks, I followed those instructions exactly and got rid of all the problems and apparently several other nasties that I didn't even know I had. I'm now tooled up with a better AV/Firewall set up, etc.

    Appreciated :)
