Win32 cryptor removal

    Please help a newbie! My AVG anti-virus free software keeps detecting the win32 Cryptor virus in my temp folder in files ending with svchost.exe (File name is always C:\\WiNDOWS\temp\ random four letter name.tmp\svchost.exe and the process is C:\\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe and the ID is 1164). It doesn't seem to be doing anything too malicious (at least I hope) but obviously I'd rather have it removed sooner rather than later. The symptoms are that it often redirects me to spam sites when I click on links, and pop up ads have started appearing randomly. Another symptom is that in my windows/temp folder I keep having new folders created with randomly generated four letter names. This happens every few minutes, and deleting them does nothing as they just start reappearing again after a while. I feel like I have run every virus scanner under the sun and they all come up clean. I have kept Malware bytes as that was the only one to have found anything at all. i have found no help in any other online posts, so this is my last resort as I really do not want to reinstall windows. I am not sure about posting logs etc. as I am not too computer literate but I have read the instructions and should be able to follow them successfully. Thanks in advance for your time and effort!

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

    Please read ALL of this message including the notes before doing anything.

    Pleases follow the instructions in the below link:

    READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

    and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

    • **** If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going. ****
    • Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not. MGtools will frequently run even when all other tools will not.

    • After completing the READ & RUN ME and attaching your logs, make sure that you tell us what problems still remain ( if any still do )!
    Helpful Notes:

    1. If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:

    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual updates for SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.
    3. If you cannot seem to login to an infected user account, try using a different user account (if you have one) in either normal or safe boot mode and running only SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes while logged into this other user account. Then reboot and see if you can log into the problem user account. If you can then run SUPERAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes, ComboFix and MGtools on the infected account as requested in the instructions.
    4. To avoid additional delay in getting a response, it is strongly advised that after completing the READ & RUN ME you also read this sticky:

    Any additional post is a bump which will add more delay. Once you attach the logs, your thread will be in the work queue and as stated our system works the oldest threads FIRST.

    Since my last post something odd is happening. Now whenever I boot up, within about 5 mins a get a pop-up saying 'Generic host process (svchost.exe) has encountered a problem and needs to close. DCOM server has terminated unexpectedly' then the countdown begins. I used shutdown -a to stop it from happening, but this is also a bit of a problem. I'm guessing its to mdo with the virus, because once this has happened and I type shutdown -a it stops creating new temp folders. I have also had problems running as it says it cannot access Windows installer (I am not running in safe mode either). I have posted all available logs however.

    There are only two temp files, both empty here:
    Code:
    "C:\WINDOWS\temp\"
    02c120~1      24 Jan 2010           0  "02C1202C151F"
    202c151f      24 Jan 2010           0  "202C151F"
    Otherwise I am not seeing any malware. What issues are you having?

    The problem is that since my computer has started doing the one minute countdown thing, which means I have to type in shutdown -a to stop it, the virus has stopped creating these new folders. Before it started the shutdown thing it was doing it every few minutes, causing AVG to pop-up everytime saying it had discovered malware in these new temp files. Reckon I need to fix the shutdown thing first before I can show you logs with the created temp folders. Although I am not getting these new temp folders anymore, I am still being redirected from google search links to unrelated sites, like ask.com partypoker etc, and then I have to go back and re-click the link until it works properly. I am also getting some pop-ups when not even clicking on anything, but just surfing the net. Help! Is there a way to fix the shutdown problem so I can show you the temp folder problem?

    * Please download TDSSKiller to your Desktop
    * Extract its contents to your Desktop so that you have TDSSKiller.exe directly on your Desktop and not in any subfolder of the Desktop.
    * Click Start > Run and copy/paste the following bold command into Run box and hit Enter.

    "%userprofile%\Desktop\TDSSKiller.exe" -v

    * Follow the instructions to type in "delete" when it asks you what to do when if finds something.
    * When done, a log file should be created on your C: drive named something like TDSSKiller.2.1.1_27.12.2009_14.17.04_log.txt which is based on the program version # and date and time run. Please attach this log to your next reply.

    Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:

    * C:\Tdss.txt
    * C:\MGlogs.zip
