    Hi
I have been getting this message fairly regularly whenever I try to delete a folder. Despite closing other relevant applications down I still get the message.
I went online today and found this:
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...-because/b758f39c-9870-4987-936a-2e69f8269fe3

    I tried various solutions:
    • ticking 'always show icons never thumbnails' in Folder Options/View
    • Going here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2025703 and trying both the fix it download and running a manual registry change fix it wouldn't run and the data I inputted into the run box wasn't accepted

    Does anyone have any advice?

    Many thanks

    Matthew

What version of Windows 7? Sounds like a ownership/permission issue, and that the OS is locking the record for some reason, when explorer is open. Have you tried a sfc /scannow as administrator in a Command Window?

That fixit is for Network shared folders, not local on the computer folders. See http://www.surfacetablethelp.com/20...-a-file-in-it-is-open-in-another-program.html (You do have to have a Pro version of the OS, to use gpedit.msc).

Also see http://social.technet.microsoft.com...er-or-a-file-in-it-is-open-in-another-program Also see http://windowssecrets.com/forums/showthread.php/149685-Folder-In-Use-(or-File-In-Use) Another http://www.onlinecomputertips.com/windows/delete_folder.html

Again, due to you have to use gpedit.msc on the last link, you need to be running Windows 7 Pro, Enterprise or Ultimate. Now there is a tool available for Starter, Home, Premium that will enable gpedit.msc, but use at your own risk http://thecustomizewindows.com/2011...-gpedit-msc-in-windows-7-home-premium-enable/ It was written by a user of the Windows 7 forums.

Thanks for getting back brownizs and falcon attack. Version is Windows 7 Professional sp1.
In terms of priority what should I try first? If it is
Do I just type this into the run window?

Go to Command in All Programs > Accessories, and right click on it, then left click on "Run as Administrator". When the window opens, type in without the quotes "sfc /scannow". It will take a bit to do its thing, and report back if there are any issues.

    Greetings, mastermiaow.

Glad you got things sorted and thanks for the feedback - it's a rarity these days, unfortunately.

That's a shame. I really appreciate the time people have taken to answer my questions on this forum - that's why I keep coming back :).
