    Since i had an update from Microsoft about two weeks ago my computer had a Trojan virus found which was removed. But since the incident my computer cursor has been acting crazy, it jumps, flashes and moving all by itself. When I try to close a document it keeps flashing between yes and no and will not let me chose, unless I push the ESC button. I have tried to reinstall the drivers but there was no success, I’ve ran malware byte, MS security antivirus but no virus or malwares have been found.
    I have also noticed that my windows at times will not reboot automatically I then have to push the enter button in order to have windows restarted. I have tried to run the highjack this software but it is giving me a message stating:
    “For some reason your system denied write access to the HOST file. If any highjacked domains are in this file, Hijackthis may NOT be able to fix this.”….the message continuous…….

    i was going to run the highjack and my last resource before whipping my laptop HD. Please HELP ME.

    This is my business computer it is a VAIO vgn S720
    win vista upgraded to win 7 64bits

    This problem is most likely a software issue, but in order for us to thoroughly check for malware first, you will need to follow the below procedures.

    Please read ALL of this message including the notes before doing anything.

    Please follow the instructions in the below link:

    READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

    and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.
    • **** If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going. ****
    • Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not. MGtools will frequently run even when all other tools will not.

    • After completing the READ & RUN ME and attaching your logs, make sure that you tell us what problems still remain ( if any still do )!
    Helpful Notes:

    1. If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:
    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual updates for SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.
    3. If you cannot seem to login to an infected user account, try using a different user account (if you have one) in either normal or safe boot mode and running only SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes while logged into this other user account. Then reboot and see if you can log into the problem user account. If you can then run SUPERAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes, ComboFix and MGtools on the infected account as requested in the instructions.
    4. To avoid additional delay in getting a response, it is strongly advised that after completing the READ & RUN ME you also read this sticky:
    Any additional post is a bump which will add more delay. Once you attach the logs, your thread will be in the work queue and as stated our system works the oldest threads FIRST.

    i forgot to add that my CPU seems to be running much harder, the fan is working harder consequently the keyboard is getting hotter.........would that still be a virus??

    hello!

    So, it took many hrs but i was able to run 3 out of the 4 softwares. the root repeal doesn't run, it gives an error message: Does not support 64 bit OS's.
    -I tried to Run the last one, under safe mode but it didnt work

    At first i saw that the two virus which were found on my computer ( trojan.vb and pum.highjack.startmenu) were still on the quarantine after i cleared it, it seemed to have been working for just a bit, after a couple of restarting it went back to the problem.

    The windows still doesnt reboot automactly, and the crazyness of the cursor still remains, when it happens i notice that the fan gets faster and hotter. What is next?rolleyes

    Delete this folder:
    C:\Windows\CD95F661A5C411AFB2CCABCD21A325B8.TMP

    Delete these files.:
    C:\Windows\SysNative\SET1585.tmp
    C:\Windows\SysNative\SET1CAE.tmp
    C:\Windows\SysNative\SET2B2B.tmp
    C:\Windows\SysNative\SETB3A7.tmp
    C:\Windows\SysNative\SETBBF7.tmp
    C:\Windows\SysNative\SETF49E.tmp
    C:\Windows\SysNative\SETFA58.tmp
    C:\Windows\SysWOW64\SET1033.tmp
    C:\Windows\SysWOW64\SET2F6.tmp
    C:\Windows\SysWOW64\SET577.tmp

    If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required (If we renamed it please rename it back to Combofix.exe.
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Go back to step 6 of the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
      related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 7 of the READ ME
        for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

    You can post about the cursor in the software forum. :)

    hi...i am now doing the final steps. but because i had downloaded the combo fix among other softwares to a folder on my desktop im not able to unistall it? the path you have given me i had also added the folder, see below, still when i click on enter instead of unistalling it it runs the scanner again:
    this is the path, is it correct?

    "%userprofile%\Desktop\major geeks\combofix" /uninstall

    It needs to be directly ON your desktop, not in a folder on your desktop. ;)

    If we used ComboFix, you can delete the

    * ComboFix.exe file
    * C:\ComboFix folder
    * C:\QooBox folder
    * C:\WINDOWS\nircmd.exe
    * C:\combofix.txt
    * C:\ComboFix-quarantined-files.txt logs that was created.

    when i restart the computer the windows software doesn't run auto, instead there is a screen that comes up asking me to chose the OP system and then click enter.........also the craziness of the cursor is slowly coming back, it even keeps me from closing anything......... did we check the registry to see if there was anything there?

    That is just the Recovery Console that was installed when you ran Combofix. This is very useful to have and a wise idea to keep it.

    No, we don't need to poke about in the registry. You can post about the cursor issue in the software forum. :)

    Re run the procedures if you believe malware exists on your machine. However, you will need to start a brand new thread as this one is what you could call cluttered now. Thanks. :)
