Taking the time to fix this for someone who doesn't have the time. I can't get the internet back no matter what I try. I combed a lot of forums looking for winsock fixes, ipconfig, and netsh ip commands; and nothing I could find could get the browsers to work or any program to update even though the lan indicates that it is functional.

I have run the readme/run me, but :( I did not come running here first. I tried running Malwarebytes earlier today and also Spybot Search & Destroy. I'm sorry! I didn't know. I swear I can read and do my best to follow directions. :cry The Malwarebytes logs from earlier are still available if needed but I don't want to add extra unrequested logs to the post.

I am still unable to connect to the internet on the infected computer. Let me know if I screwed anything up (besides trying to scan earlier), and if there's more I need to do.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Your logs do not really show any malware problems. There is a little junkware but that is not the cause of your inability to connect. You will need to post in the Software Forum. However I would first try uninstalling the WebRoot software and rebooting just to see what happens. Also make sure that you have not disabled any necessary processes from getting access thru the firewall. Disable the firewall as a test.

WHat is the below item supposedly from Verizon?

    C:\Users\courtney\AppData\Roaming\Verizon\UA_ar\UA.exe

Thank you for your reply. It is good that there is no malware remaining. The earlier run Malwarebytes found and removed some other items that probably started the trouble.

The Verizon thing appears to be related to their Android phone? I Googled it, and at least the name is legitimate.

I am not familiar with WebRoot, I will attempt to remove it and continue on to the software forums. Much relieved that as stubborn as this problem it isn't due to malware. Thank you very much for checking it over!

    You're welcome.

Since you are not having malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware.
    2. Renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it in step 4 of the READ & RUN ME.
    3. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis. If you don't see it or it will not uninstall, don't worry about it. Just move on to the next step.
    4. If running Vista, Win 7 or Win 8, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Now goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click ( if running Vista, Win7, or Win 8 Right Click and Run As Administrator ) on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    6. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    7. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

Good afternoon Chaslang or whoever may be available to help me. I had decided to install the Comodo Internet Security to take care of her anti-virus and firewall needs and was interested in this part of your Protection thread where it says:

You may want to read the below link if your are unfamiliar with configuring protection software:

Configuring CIS for Maximum Security with ZERO Alerts for Novices

I think this would be very good idea because I know some who are unfamiliar with internet security will get frustrated with programs that constantly nag them about their security and then flat out uninstall them rather than deal with the nuisance--which completely defeats the purpose here. However that page is now completely unaccessible, even after I registered for the forums with Comodo. I'm interested if there is a new link or other recommendations for it.

Sorry about that but Comodo keeps changing or deleting that reference. We have had to change the link a few times in the past. I do not know of any replacement link now. You could ask at their forum to see if they still have that procedure. It may be different now as new versions of their software come out.

Would have edited my previous post, but I appear to be too late. The link I provided above is actually provided in a sticky post on Comodo's own forums as the current advice for max protection and minimum alerts. It appears to be authored by one of the mods over there.

Thanks for the info. Yes I have seen this before. Different info than in the past. Since Comodo cannot keep a constant link in place, I have chosen to remove my reference to the original link completely. I cannot keep editing due to broken links. They should be smarter and keep the same link but just edit the contents for new versions of their program. ;)
