    HI

I kept getting warnings saying my extrernal hard drive was in use when I tried to eject it.

I checked in resource monitor and it was windows search doing Auto indexing.

I had to manually turn off windows search to free it up.

Is there a way I can stop the search from indexing external devices, or at least stop it from indexing continuously?

I looked in Indexing Options in the Control Panel and it only listed the folders 'Start Menu' and 'Users' under indexed 'locations'.

    I'm using Windows 8.1.

    Cheers

Hi my friend , do you close any file which is associated with external hard drive ? There is a possibility having any file/folder opened of your hdd because of that you aren't able to remove your external hdd
