I've run the READ ME FIRST processes for removal of Malware as I picked up some malware that was closing my web browser.

Now however, whenever I try to access the web using my wi-fi USB key, Windows crashes completely with the folowing error message:

"A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your PC... restart your PC and uninstall hardware.

    KERNAL_DATA_INPAGE ERROR
    ***STOP.0x0000007a...***"

Tried restarting, uninstalling and repeating virus scans.Have also exchanged the software/ghardware for the wi-fi USB key to the shop but still have the same problem when trying to install.

Am at a loss... any help much appreciated.

The following can cause that error:

    The Swap file is corrupt
    The IDE Cable is bad
The IDE Controller is going bad

The "Swap File" or "Page File" is on your Hard Drive. It is often referred to as "Virtual Memory" you can control the size of the file or whether the system uses one at all.

From the Control Panel -> System -> Advanced, click Settings in the “Performance” Section. On the Advanced page of the result, the current total physical size of all page files that may be in existence is shown. Click Change to make settings for the Virtual memory operation. Here you can select any drive partition and set either ‘Custom’; ‘System Managed’ or ‘No page file’; then always click Set before going on to the next partition.

I'm assuming the SWAP file is the problem ( I don't know what an IDE cable or connection is. but appaers it is a problem with system files)

On the swap file, do I want to increase the virtual memory size, if so what size should I set it to? - bearing in mind I know nothing about the more advanced side of IT i don't want to do any damage to my laptop - is this a problem I'll be able to fix myself?

It really depends on how much of a demand is placed on your computer. You can set it to managed by Windows, or set it to 2-3 times the size of your phyical memory.
