windows freezing and mouse going crazy anyone have any ideas why?

    my windows xp home freezes on me and my mouse jumps around the screen like crazy i have done a disk cleanup ,virus scan and they show nothing wrong .i am confused as to what might be the problem .any help??

    some more info plz
    does it freeze up so that you have to manually turn it off or does it just freeze for a few seconds

    check event viewer for errors
    control panel--performance and maintenance--administrative tools--event viewer
