    Hello all,
I am frustrated to the core here.
I installed a PNY/Nvidia 6600 video card, because my other one crapped out on me
Windows will launch, but freezes at various places. Sometimes it will freeze up at the log in part, before it gets to the desktop.
I have dled the drivers from here and still get the same problem.
I bought a brand new 350 watt power supply (the old one was 300w)
    Still freezes.
I have upgraded my audigy sound card drivers.
BTW I have checked the forum for my issue, could not find a similar one for my vc

    Here are my specs
    ASUSTeK A7N266 mobo
    Athlon 1800+
    CL Audigy sound card
    Windows XP Pro SP 1
    Zone Alarm firewall and AV
    ATX form factor
    768 RAM

I can only open in Safe mode or VGA mode to be able to do anything.
    Plz Plz help.

I would suggest re-installing the video card, Reseat it make sure it's got a good connection to the PCI-E/AGP/PCI Slot, Get out any dust or anything.

Make sure the Onboard card is fully disabled Via bios also make sure the drivers are gone and the old card doesn't show up nor it's drivers.

Depending on the brand of the power supply you'll be lucky if 350w is large enough for a 6600,post the make and model of your new power supply, have you connected the extra molex power to the card

As Dark said you need to remove your old drivers, this can be done in safe mode, then run this app to completely remove your old drivers, read the readme before using,if your old card was an nvidia card choose to clean nvidia,if ATI choose ATI

I cleaned out the drivers with the driver cleaner utility on here.
Should I install the drivers that came with card or go to nvidia.com and install the drivers from there.

the brand of the power supply is dynex. it was the only one at best buy that would fit my case. I almost thought about just buying a new case for about 30 dollars that had a 400w powers supply in there.

I am wanting to get this done w/o having to redo my whole system for monetary reasons.

Post the model number of the power supply, how much did you pay for it?Also the power supplies that come with cases also arnt much good, its best to buy them seperately:confused:

EDIT Install the latest drivers from nvidia, again have you connected the extra molex power to the card?

Yeah don't use the ones already in a Case they are VERY poorly made, And will fry you're system if you're not careful. I thought for sure Best Buy also carried Antec...The Dynex PSU's are junk I'm surprised you're system even started.

It is probably you're PSU. Go back to Best Buy return that POS and ask if they have any Antec's in...I would imagine that you use ATX right... ATX12V will work just make sure the Dimensions are close or the same. If not buy a bigger case as you mentioned, but also a better PSU Antec would be the best choice.

And if that still doesn't work...Then you're Motherboard or Video Card is having issues or could be bad.

EDIT Also make sure the 24Pin can be used as a 20 Pin also. Just incase.

    voila its working now.
Getting rid of the drivers completely was the trick. Before my Geforce 5200, I had a ATI. So it was all the old drivers that caused the issue.
Dark they were out of the antec 350watts, the only ones they had were ones where the fan was on top, which would have not fit in my case.
Thanx for the help guys. Rikki, go have some tea and scones for me LOL.

Those PSU's are meant to be put in upside down, They are shown that way just to expose the fan so you know what you're buying, It would fit in you're PC.

The fan would be facing downward.
