    I have a Dell Desktop Dimension 2400
    Pentium 4 2.6 GHz1 GB ram

    Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002 SP 2

    HELP!

    Thanks

    Hi stratmatt,
    try this.....
    Causes of the error C00D11BA and solutions
    a) If you have a problem with your sound device, such as a sound card or sound controller then Windows Media Player cannot play the file for you. It may happen because your sound device is in use by another program. You must quit other programs that might be using your sound device, and then try to play the file again.

    b) You must check whether a sound device has been installed on your computer. If not, install a sound device, and then try to play the file again. Mostly, Windows will detect the new hardware automatically and install the required software drivers.

    c) If Windows unable to install the software drivers automatically then;
    * Click Start.
    * Select Settings.
    * Click Control Panel.
    * Double-click Add Hardware.

    d) It is also possible that the software drivers for your sound device may be missing or corrupted. Reinstall the latest software drivers for your sound device by scanning for updates on the Windows Update Web site or contact your sound device manufacturer's Web site.

    e) If Windows Media Player uses an incompatible version of Microsoft DirectX then it will stop the functioning of your sound device. Install the latest version of DirectX from the DirectX Web site.

    Also when you used ccleaner did you not back up you registry?? you could also try rolling your machine back if you use restore!!! Look in your device manager are there any yellow ! or red x

    THANKS for the quick reply iain.t BUT.....

    a.) I get an error if I try Media Player or Itunes and no sound when booting up or shutting down.

    b.) When I go to the hardware tab in System Properties the Multimedia Audio Controller has a large yellow question mark nexct to it. I tried going to Dell.com and loading the audio drivers but it die not help. Each time I try to play a sonmg in Media player or Itunes I get the message There is a problem with your sound device, there might not be a sound device installed on your computer.

    How do I install a sound device? Which soiund device should I install?

    C.) did not work. When I try to add the drivers for Multimedia audio controller i get this error the hardware was not installed because the wizard could not find the necessary hardware.

    d.) I tried downloading the drivers from the Dell.com website but it did not fix the problem. I restarted the PC too.

    e.) loaded lates DirectX and it idi not help.

    I tried to go back to Friday's last restore point and it told me that it was the same as the one today.

    which audio drivers did you install? The Analog devices integrated audio, or the creative labs 5.1 driver? Are you sure you matched up the correct driver to what is actually in your system?

    Thanks again for the quick reply!!!!

    When I went to the Dell site there was only one audio driver listed for my service pack #

    according to Belarc this is listed under Multimedai
    Unimodem Half-Duplex Audio Device

    I do not see anything else related to sound or audio on Belarc

    How do I tell what is in my system?

    Greetings, stratmatt.

    If you are using onboard audio, you're running the Analog Devices audio. If you're plugging into a PCI card, you're using the Creative. The page abekl linked to supplies both.

    After finding the correct drivers for your system, uninstall any audio drivers listed in Add/Remove Programs, download and install the MS UAA driver since you're running XP SP2 (located here or here), then reinstall the correct audio driver.

    So you will REALLY get a kick out of this :-o ....

    So I knew something was not right when I went to remove the driver that I had installed earlier. It was NOT there. I NEVER ran the exe file that I saved on my hard drive. DUH! What an idiot.

    I downloaded it again the Analog Devices driver. Then I ran the file this time and when I was restarting my machine I got the normally annoying Windows sound, but this time it was GREAT to hear it.

    Thanks once again to all of you!! You helped me before and now this time.

    I have recommended this site to anyone that tells me they have PC issues.

    I am SO impressed that I got instantaneous response too. I thought I was going to be down for a couple days instead of a couple hours! You ARE awesome!!! Issue solved.

    :-D

    Glad to hear that. Have you tried Media Player yet?

    yes I did AND ITunes too, they both work.

    I have another issue that I will open a thread later this week. Everytime I close down after being on for some time I get several small sizesd windows pop up screens that tell me a service/app is still running and that I need to end it. ShellConHiddenWindow (I know for sure) and CC Service (I think that is what it is) always show up. It is more annoying than anything unless you think that it signifies an issue when I raise it later on.

    Thanks once again

    Glad you got it sorted, stratmatt, and thanks for the feedback. :major

    (Do start a new thread with your other problem - looks like it might be a fairly easy one to solve).

    I will do that when I get home.

    What forum should I post it in?

    I would imagine its software related, so try here first - the thread can always be moved if it turns out to concern something else.

    Two tips:
    One. Never use CCleaner again. I've used it just twice, over several years, and both times it trashed my Windows. I had to do a Ghost Restore to get my computer working again.

    Two. Make sure your System Restore app is enabled and working. That's always your first line of defense, against an update or a boo boo messing up something in Windows.
    (been there, done that and got the T-Shirt)
    System Restore is so important to me, that I force a new restore point on every boot, with a script in my Startup Folder.

    Experience is truly the best teacher, whether it's a good experience or a bad one.

    Cheers mates!

    Thanks, but in the PC Manintenance section on this website it says that we should use CCleaner. What do you use? :confused

    How do I know if my System Restore is enabled and working? it sounds like it is not working properly right?

    Obviously, CCleaner does work for some people on some computers, but evidently it's sensitive to either certain computers or computers with certain software installed. That was obvious, in my own case. After running CCleaner on my PC, it would not even boot.

    For every OS from 98/SE thru XP-Pro-SP3, I've been using "Easy Cleaner II" from 'Toni Arts'. Never once has it messed up any of the hundreds of computers I've run it on. (I'm in the computer business and can't afford to run anything that will mess up a PC. ECII is not upgraded for Vista or Win-7)

    For Vista and Win-7, I use PC TuneUP from AVG. So far, so good.

    But to clean out junk files at maximum efficiency, without taking out something that is needed on the PC, use windows own Disk Cleanup.

    Just a thought.

    As far as System Restore, check Control Panel > System > System Restore. If the "Turn off System Restore" box is unchecked, if you are allowing Windows to use disk space for storage (the slider), and if the status is "Monitoring" at least your root drive (typically, "C:"), then you're good to go.

    Note: Leave the slider at maximum, unless you're cramped for hard drive space. That way, Windows can store RPs further back in time.

    I've tried to ask you previously on the forum about your CCleaner 'problems'.

    I too have had 2 occasions when CCleaner messed up, both times it killed sound on Win98 machines.

    I still use CCleaner and see no reason to advise others not to use it. As with any other software, read and carefully select the portions of the program you want to install; when you run it, ticking every box is a surefire way of doing some damage, somewhere - CCleaner is passive, it doesn't look for other 'tweaking' apps that may clash with it, and it only removes what you have selected. The Analyze button is very useful :)

    I'll add my CCleaner settings; note, these are for my PC and include 'extra's' from CCEnhancer (or the latest winapp2.ini). These are not added to advise you how to set your own CCleaner up.

    Bottom line: - if you're unsure - DON'T delete it!
