Mr. Chaslang advised me to post regarding doing a repair install or total reinstall of Windows XP. I have never attempted such a fix, so I would very much appreciate any guidance or assistance in getting started. Thanks in advance!

    To do a repair install:

Boot up with your XP CD in the drive. Make sure your CD drive is the first boot device (check in the bios). When prompted, press F3 to install Windows. Press F8 to agree to the policy. When prompted type R to repair your installation of XP.

Uneducated (read: dumb) question: what is/are the bios?

Heh, if you press the DEL key when booting up your PC you can access it. It's low level settings for your motherboard.

Not always the "delete" key. Sometimes it's a funtion key, too.
