windows security alerts and avast!

how come i the windows security alerts alway shows that avast! need update then im already up to date?

 

what version of avast are you using?
I had the same problem once

I completly removed norton and made sure my services for avast where running and had the automatic updates for the program itself and the virus data base
restarted my computer and never saw it again
but that was me

 

i did use norton before...and i already remove it...not sure if everything is gone...since im just use remove tool that windows come with it.
version:
- Program: Already up to date
(current version 4.1.418)
- Vps: Already up to date
(current version 0440-3)

btw where do i set the autoupdate? i cant find it...

 

in the tray icon the mouse over. . . .whats your running total?


are you using the simple interface?
or enhanced?

 

Hi, If that is the New Security centre it could be that your version of Avast is not recognised by it. Some people switch the security centre off when using 3rd. party software.

right click the tray icon>pause provider

see if the p2p shield is running and what else?
you may not have installed it

here do this:
find your avast folder, probably

C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4

theres a blue "a" icon ball. . .ashEnhcd.exe
open it click settinngs.update(basic) and there should be a list

 

i think i got the simple interface...since i cant find blue "a" icon ball. . .ashEnhcd.exe but blue "s" icon ball "ashsimpl". i do have p2p runing and internet mail, instand messageing, standard shield.

how do i change from simple interface to enhanced?

 

open your avast folder
view by type

you have to have an "a" icon, at least one

 

i got everything BUT that icon...

my is home edition avast!4 antivirus.

thanks..but then i try to update i got http return error503, but then after few try i got the windows say all that update and stuff. btw i can only change to enhanced if i buy the pro verison...lol

 

well if you have completly reomove norton the security centre should recognize avast as the default av

open the task manager and see if norton is still running
