My laptop's windows xp originally has Service Pack 1. Realizing this, I immediately turn automatic updates on.

The thing is, the updater keeps wanting to update, install, update, download, install and so forth. It's been happening since last night.

The problem is, for some reason after the first update, my laptop becomes INCREDIBLY slow. For example, when I right click something, it takes a good minute or two before the right click menu even shows up.

When I double click My Computer, it takes at least 2 minutes before it starts to load the box and another 2 minutes before the content is displayed.

However, when I right click My Computer and choose Properties, my laptop still thinks I have Service Pack 2.

    What's going on? :(

The Service Pack 2 was a large file plus the updates since then so I would assume it is still updating, when it first came out it took over a month for automatic updates to completely download SP2, as it did it in small chunks so as to be inconspicuous to the user, not sure if that is the case now though. I would wait awhile then see what happens. Hope that Helps

And if you have any viruses or nasties...it will screw up the install.
