Windows Update cannot currently check for updates because the service is not running

if go to windows updates i see red shield with cross if click to check for updates getting this message:

Windows Update cannot currently check for updates because the service is not running. You may need to restart your computer.

did restart. no help. did try restore to earlier point it failed.

it's all started with that i need to install .NET framework 4.0 and it failed. for new quickbooks 2013 support from quickbooks point me to that i have problems with windows updates and sagest i fix it first.

try run this in command promt:

NET START BFE
NET START BITS
NET START WUAUSERV
NET START TRUSTEDINSTALLER

and here what i got:

C:\Windows\system32>NET START BFE
The service name is invalid.

Did you try, Control Panel,, Performance,, Administrative Tools,,, Services,, and then scroll until you see Automatic Updates and see if it's started, if it's not , click on it and then click Start Service also check if,, Background Intelligent Transfer Service is running, mine is on Manual .

I did go there. the problem is that both BITS and automatic updates are not there... they just don't exists there... :confused

BRILLIANT!! Thanks a lot! I Was infected in summer time last year with zeroacsess Trojan ( that i had removed with this forum help too)

Thanks Ironman, I should have said in my last post that I had tried that solution but it never worked.
