    Hey there,

My friend on his vista home premium had borowed an image of windows 7 beta - i think and used this (just mounted it on virtual drive) and installed - took about 2 1/2 hours.

All seemingly went well, although I was told you cant update the beta version?? anymore if at all - I have no idea on this part as his p.c isnt online...

The issue seemingly is that under the windows 7 install there are no files listed under the all programs. if one right clicks on the all programs one can find program files but the link? to these has an issue. I did a quick search and a suggestion was to create a new profile... however this didnt work.

I am unsure how to recreate the link? to the program files in win7 any ideas people??:confused

..it was the first time I had seen Win7:cool
I thought I might be able to find the target - go to the All programs and paste the programs path as a target as a "start in" for the "All programs" in win7 but the somewhat unfamiliar menu, and stunning lack of knowledge with win7 and vista didnt help..:cry.

Thanks in advance for any helpful pointers.:wave

there's an issue, at least for me in the RC for win 7, that has a limit of 75 (i think that's the number) shortcuts in the all programs window. You have to open the folder options and select the option to show hidden files and folders. If you go to
C:\users\username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\StartMenu and try to organize some of the short cuts. I'm about to install the full version of windows 7 in a few days (the RC is expiring March 1st) and I hope this was fixed.

keep in mind, some shortcuts can also be in other places, but that is the most common.

My suggestion to you at this stage is for your friend to purchase a full copy of Windows 7 and do an upgrade as according to this site: http://tech.icrontic.com/articles/u...tures&utm_medium=banner&utm_campaign=homepage

I suggest this at this time as from the 1st March 2010 the RC version of windows 7 will begin to shut down every 2 hours. I am sure that this should already be happening to the beta version if that is what you have. Obviously as you move further down the time scale more and more things Microsoft have built in will start happening to make your computer usage with the RC/beta more and more annoying.
