The title pretty much says the question at hand: Is it possible to upgrade a 5 year old machine "designed for Windows ME" (it came with Windows ME installed) with Windows XP Home? The specs of the computer are (this is from memory, the computer in question is 100 miles away from me at the moment):
    • Pentium III 800 MHz
    • 128 MB RAM
    • 30 GB HD
    • 8 MB video card

According to Microsoft, this system will run Windows XP, but it just barely meets the memory requirement. Although, I can't imagine that running XP somewhat slowly could be any worse that running ME on anything. Some input on this?

Slow wont be the word there. Interminable is a better descriptor.

Get more ram, 256mb at least, 512mb+ would be better, then things would be a lot better.

Haha! I got a good laugh out of that. You're right though, more RAM should have been put in that machine long ago, regardless of whether an OS change/update was imminent.
