I am new to this forum, and I hope I am using this forum correctly. Well here we go, I have been experiencing some problems with one of my User's Account. Periodically, --I cannot pinpoint as to when this happens-- I am unable to open "My Computer" "My documents" "Search" and some other commands (if that's what they are called), and also I was unable to open "Windows Explore through Start. So what I wanted to do was to delete that User's Account and create a new one and transfer all of the files to the new Account. Well, any way, before I going to delete the user's account which is called "Linda", I went into another admistrator user's account and I right clicked Start and Explore. Searching on my Window's Explorer for the file "Linda" under Document Settings I was unable to locate it. I did a search for some of the documents that were created under "Linda's account" and finding out that I am actually the "Owner" When I sign on to Windows XP it gives me a list of all the user's account and "Linda" is one of them, I do not actually have one that says Owner. I just want to pause for a minute and explain to you how my C: drive reads: I have Document Settings, Admistrator, All Users, Default User, "my daughter's user's account", Guest, "my other daughter's users account" , LocalService, Network Service and Owner. There is no Linda's folder, but all of the folders that I have created under Linda are on Owner. The strange thing is that when I open Control Panel and look to see the Users Accounts, Owner is not there but Linda and all of the other users are. Since I can't figure out why sometimes I cannot open files on Linda's account, I wanted to delete it. My question is that if I delete "Linda" Account (which is "Owner") will I mess up the computer in any way? I am sorry if this is a bit lenghty. I hope I was clear on explaining it. I know sometime I might have repeated myself I apologize for that. Thank you for your help.

My guess is the permission of the problem account or the registry is screwed up.

Was this XP an update to an older windows or a fresh install?

Most manufacturers create an "Owner" account by default. It just sounds like the "Owner" account go it's name changed to Linda at some point. That changes the name, but the files still go to the original "owner" folder.

Basically, what you want to do is create a new administrator user account for you to use, then then copy everything over using the following procedure found here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/811151/en-us

Don't delete "Linda" until you are sure everything is working OK in the new account!
