I am trying to install a Pokemon game on cd for my son and get the following error during installation:

    File Error
    Cannot Find WINOLDAP.MOD

when I click ok it stops the installation.

Whats wrong and how do I fix it? Hoping this is insignificant!!!

Thank you, I know this is trivial and I understand if you don't get back to me right away. I know there are people here with more urgent problems.

Is this Pokemon program compatable to your O/S? (Operating System)

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/83356 goes back to Win 3.x & MSDOS.

What O/S are you running? XP?

(BTW, In XP, the WINOLDAP.MOD file is in C:\WINDOWS\system32.)

    Hey Dan,

Yeah, XP. I went to the link you listed....greek to me.

Could you explain,if you're so inclined and have the time, what WINOLDAP.MOD is, does, and if it is vitally important that it cannot be found.

I looked on the disc and it did not list the various OS it works on. Of course, my 9 year old is not going to keep the accompanying instructions that come with the game!!! The disc has a web site (valuesoft) listed on it, however, I have not had a chance to go there.

I'm just worried that my WINOLDAP.MOD is missing and how that will affect my system.

Looking forward to hearing from you. TIA

    Thank you.

If the program requires the file to install/run, then yes. However, it should be there in the C:\WINDOWS\system32\ folder. Your machine is most likely set not to show it as it's a System File. When set like this, a Search won't show it either.

To see/list it you go to Control Panel, Folder Options, View tab. Under Hidden files and folders you set it to Show hidden files and folders, and not to Hide protected operating system files.

This is not required for program installs though. Installers and programs do find/use these files. As I stated above, when that file is requested, just point the Pokemon installation to the C:\WINDOWS\system32\ folder, if it gives you the option.

Let us know if you can't find or understand any answers on the Valusoft site, or if more problems ensue.
