When I try installing WINXP, it gets to "registering components" with 13 minutes left, it freezes. Left it on for 24 hours to see what would happen. Nada. Still stays. Anyone else had this prob. Have winXp SP1 that came with my dell.

have you just tried the installation once or have you done it more than two times and it continues to happen?

is your drive fat32 or ntsf? if it is ntsf, try using fat32. if it is already fat32, i have no idea, unless your installation disk is putting specific software for your dell computer onto your non-dell system.

definitely stick with ntfs, fat is never a good option hundreds of reasons why i wont bore you with, just stick with ntfs! have you tried booting from the 6 setup floppy disks and then inserting your windows cd?
