WMP10 burner freezes whole computer! Help!

Please help! When I insert a blank disc the wmp burn area pops up and then the whole computer freezes for probably 30 seconds. Then it works again for like 15 seconds and freezes. It repeats this indefinitely. While it is frozen, none of the buttons or mouse works at all. You can't even CTRL ALT DEL it. You cannot eject the disc. The only way to get thru it is holding the restart button in. Then, while it's starting up again you have to eject the disc or it will freeze immediately after signing in.
I've tried removing adware, spyware, I updated wmp to the new "10". Every so often it will let me complete a burn and then when I try the next burn it freezes again.

I don't know if there's something wrong w/my media player or if I have a virus or something...??? Could it be the cds? I'm using Sony CD-R 700 MB/Mo 80 min 1x-48x blank cds for burning. Thanks to anyone that will help.

 

A point of interest what sort of media are you trying to burn!?!

Have you tried a different burning software?!? One that is specific for burning and not a player. I have never used WMP burner but use Nero. It is often stated (langa.com) that apps' that try to do to many tasks often will only perform them on average at best. For example Security Suites that try to offer AV + Firewall + Spyware + Adware within the one package will normally perform poorly in one or all areas and it is a lot better to have seperate apps that specialise in particular areas. With that said WMP is a player and I would personally summise that it would function poorly as a burning!?!

Thanks Bold Eagle, I will give that a try. I have nero, just have always used wmp. I'm going to try this. Any other ideas anyone?

 

Now, I tried burning with Nero and everything went awesome until then end of the burn process. I clicked to finish and then it asked what I want to do. I hit "a new project" and the nero screen went blank and the computer froze again like originally described unfreezing for ten seconds and then freezing etc...
I had to hold the reset button in to restart it. When it rebooted, then I could get the disc to eject. I'm sure it's burned but haven't checked. Then I got the light blue "windows" screen that's bad saying something about
"one of my discs...you can skip this but not recommended..." I tried to grab a pen quick and that's all I can remember it saying...
???

that "freeze" happens on most burning software
the reasion - its clearing the data that it has saved to the hard drive while it was burning and also clearing out the clipboard

the computer locks up because its devoting all its resources to doing this.

unless you want to reinstall windows, stop hard re-booting the system
