Word processor required

I want to be able to read dowloaded MSword docs, sent to me as attachments, proofread them, and return them to sender, but I don't want to shell out for MS Office, as I won't use it for anything else. Is there a freeware word processor that will edit word docs and allow them to be saved in the doc format?

Just use wordpad. It can open them and edit them. I use it.
