working drivers for MS 7061/VIA VT8237R

I recently bought a computer off my buddy and I cannot get the sound working even though I've scoured the net for new drivers, updated codecs, etc etc. The system says that the audio is installed and working properly but I do not hear anything with working speakers and/or working headphones. Even the audio jack out of the installed dvd and cd-rw drives do not emit sound. Any ideas at all?
