I got a new iCute computer case for Xmas and was having no trouble setting it up, got it all working last night. However, when this morning I tried to plug in the LED fans on the side it powered on for half a second, then off. I thought it was the power supply/motherboard and eventually swapped power supply.

After swapping, I went through both DVD/CD drives I had with no problems switching on, then my first HD, then my second. When I put in the second (Seagate 80GB) it wouldn't switch on, half a second of the fan whirling then off. I tried numerous Y pin (I think thats the name) connectors for it and each of them has the same result.

    Is my HD dead???

    Cheers!

Most likely you are overloading the Powersupply. What wattage is it?

Well I am not sure it is that, I have both a 300W and a 350W and neither of them are powering up with it attached - and I have used it no problems for a year now, this transfer from case to case is what has done it. I made sure to screw it in properly into the new case though which is frustrating.

What system are you running? Cpu? Graphics Card?

CPU is AMD Athlon 2800+, graphics card is an ATi Radeon 9600XT.

First question is, will the system power up with no Cards, no lights, no drives installed, just a base system (memory/keyboard/monitor)?

Yeah, sorry this is a late reply, from the UK. It powers up fine with a base system, even with my CD drives/older HD. It all powers up no problem.

Try booting up with base system and new hard drive and see if it will boot just fine. It is most likely that everything together is overloading the PS.

Tried that and still no solution, it is still powering up for half a second then quickly off. Took it round to a friends PC today with a 400W PSU and still the same thing.

Worried it is just totally dead
