I just did a clean install of XP. My friend wanted to install Wubi to have Ubuntu in Windows, well after the complete Wubi, Ubuntu installation, he booted into Ubuntu and got nothing. It opened to the Ubuntu opening screen, he clicks Ubuntu and nothing but an Ubuntu colored blank screen. When he clicks Ubuntu Recovery, it says it "opens shadow passwords" then restarts to an Ubuntu colored blank screen. Any ideas ??

My friend tried Lubuntu on the same PC, and had no problems installing and running that program. But it's Ubuntu he really would rather have, but can't get to install.

I don't have experience with Wubi, but I do run a mint linux/win 7 box. Plenty of good "How Tos" out there for setting up dual boot.

For a good look at doing it for another distro. The basics on the second link will apply to any situation, particularly the partioning information. With mint all I needed to do was to shrink the windows partition to make room for the linux partitions needed. No new install of 7...
