Hello, im hoping somebody can help me!

I spent alot of money on this card and it doesnt seem to be helping me much :(

My problem is explained alot more here

    http://www.far2cool.com/topic.aspx?PID=1254556&DNO=14

But for those who dont want to link.

    Farcry

    High settings

    1280*1024 Resolution

    Forceware drivers: 84.21

    AA and AF are disabled

    Image Quality set to high

    Specs:
    AMD Athlon 64 3000+ Venice @ 2.54Ghz
    XFX Geforce 7800GTX 256mb
    2 x 512MB Samsung pc3200 DDR 400mhz RAM
200GB SATA 150 Maxtor 8MB Cache Hard Drive
    ABIT Fatal1ty AN8 SKT 939 NVIDIA® nForce4 Ultra M/B
    Hiper Type R 580W Modular ATX2.2 PSU - Blue

    39FPS

    Using FRAPS

I get on average 60fps, Compared to this

    http://hardware.gamershell.com/articles/xfx_geforce_7800_gtx_review/5.html

    Which shows 100+fps

just ran 2 benchmarks using HOC farcry archive demo

I'm comparing my results with these:

    http://www.tbreak.com/reviews/article.php?cat=grfx&id=384&pagenumber=6

    Resolution: 1280×1024
    Maximum quality option, Direct3D renderer
    Level: Archive, demo: Archive1.tmd
    Pixel shader: default model
    Antialising: 4×
    Anisotrophic filtering: 8×
    HDR: disabled
    Geometry Instancing: disabled
    Normal-maps compression: disabled

    Score = 72.10 FPS

    and

    Resolution: 1024×768
    Maximum quality option, Direct3D renderer
    Level: Archive, demo: Archive1.tmd
    Pixel shader: default model
    Antialising: 4×
    Anisotrophic filtering: 8×
    HDR: disabled
    Geometry Instancing: disabled
    Normal-maps compression: disabled

    Score = 73.51 FPS

Obviously the resolution isnt making much of a difference!

    also

    This was weird..

When i tried to run the HOC anticitizen.

The hard drive was making a loading sound all the way through it and lagging really bad which led to me just typing in Exit cause it wasnt going anywere quickly. Its like it was just loading constantly, like the harddrive was too slow to keep up or something!

    Resolution: 1280×1024
    Demo: HardwareOC - Anticitizen
    Detail: Maximum quality
    Hardware DirectX level: DirectX 9
    High Dynamic Range: None
    Heapsize: 64 MB - default
    Antialising mode: None
    Filtering mode: Bilinear
    Fast Z: Disabled
    Score = 6.1 FPS

Just ran HOC Highway and this..

    Resolution: 1280×1024
    Demo: HardwareOC - Highway
    Detail: Maximum quality
    Hardware DirectX level: DirectX 9
    High Dynamic Range: None
    Heapsize: 256 MB
    Antialising mode: None
    Filtering mode: Bilinear
    Fast Z: Disabled
    Score = 42.1 FPS

I'ts really pissing me off now, what is letting my system down

My memory is a couple of years old now could it be that?

I say this because its like things like msn etc dont pop up as fast as they used to do, sometimes it loads first and then comes up. The hard drive clutters and then brings it up! Argh im begining to pick at everything now i just wanna sort it out :<

You can actually get my memory now for bout 30 quid a 512 stick..

Maybe i should upgrade my memory as it seems ive upgraded everything else bar that..

I would suggest running 3dmark 03 or 05 and let us know what you score, or do a compare with others.

the reason I say this is because these benchmarks are almost exclusively video card dependant.

if you score fine on them this will tell us alot, and vise versa.

    good luck.

    update from the other forum.

l dontknow..^_^, it had somet to do when u were learning me how to overclock :p

Anyways at the moment im running it at 262*9 with ddr333 @ 2.36ghz

This is faster than what 239*9 with ddr400 lets me run at, cause anything higher bios resets.

this gave me 137.5fps in counterstrike: source stress test.

    My current setup (262*9 with ddr333 @ 2.36ghz)

    Gives me: 140.96fps

Will lowering my memory speed affect stability though??

    I've been able to get to 163*9 at 4x HTT ddr333 @ cpu 2.37ghz

    CS:source stress test 143.64fps

    :D

    3dmark 05: 7956

Does that look ok to you mellowman??

your video card scores seem fine.

but I think I have figured out your problem, you are comparing your computer with the one in the benchmark links, but that test system uses a Amd64 3800, and you only have a 3000.

yeah i know. My memory was running at half its speed, that was the main problem though!

    Thanks for helping :)

Will it be better running my memory at ddr400 239*9 5X HTT @ cpu 2.14ghz getting 137.5fps in counterstrike: source stress test.

    or 163*9 at 4x HTT ddr333 @ cpu 2.37ghz getting 143.64 in CS:source stress test

Which would you use? for stability in games etc?

i would test it on another benchmark (like farcry) just to make sure that your getting valid results.

if you are then go with the fastest setup;)

Go down to your Tray Icons (bottom right) and close everything you can, firewalls, notifiers, monitors, anything.

That card is like 1000 bucks isn't it

Or in the US, around 470.

I paid 400 for mine new. Its a 256mb XFX 7800GTX OC VIVO.

huh? :p im just wondering if running my memory at ddr400 would be more stable

I wasnt saying ignore your post chris I forgot to take away the quote, what I posted had already been said:D

I'm probably just stating the obvious Anyhoo, what you need to do is to find the maximum overclock,is to treat the three multiplyers seperately, that is the HTT speed, the ram speed and cpu speed, what you should do is leave the cpu multi stock, drop the HTT to x4,and the ram down to 333 "this is a devider that knocks your memory down to 4\5" then push your fsb up untill you reach your maximum stable cpu overclock, once your HTT and memory start to reach stock speed again knock them down to 3\5,the HTT and memory dont come into play yet, at each stage run a cpu benchmark program like in sandra lite and a stability program like prime 95 'about half an hour'

once you have found your maximum cpu overclock, note it,knock your cpu multi down and ram devider and find your maximum HTT overclock, then knock down your, cpu and HTT and find what speed your ram will run at

post the three numbers here, cpu mhz,HTT mhz and Ram mhz,we can see what the best combination of devider isis,if you have already done the first steps just post the the three numbers, also what latencies are you running your memory at,dropping the latecy down can also increase the ram overclock which may give you a better combination or reducing the latency will help when running your ram at 333 (4\5) :)

thanks rickky i'll try that when i get time. because these things do take alot of time!

I spent a couple of hours last night trying all kinds of diff settings, writing everything down on a piece of paper and trying 3dmark05 and counterstrike source stress test each time (y it took so long).

My graphics and everything else seems to be fine now, pc's running faster than what it did.

My cpu multiplier is at 2.65 x 9

htt is on 4x and memory ddr333

Which seems to be giving me the best performance so far. But like you've just said i probably could get more out of my system. I'll try that when i get the time too. thankyou very much
