XP black screen after a virus removal

yesterday i remove a virus from the pc...but after the removal, when i reboot the computer, a black screen and a mouse pointer will appear after the windows boot screen...and i can move the mouse...is this may be i have remove a file during the virus removal..? i could not access the safe mode...safe mode command prompt could not be access to...hope somebody can give me some advice 0n how to fix this problem...thanks & GOd bless..

 

your OS got corrupted, try boot the bootable disk xp and repair it so that your safe mode will be back
