    Hi guys.

I'm cleaning up my laptop hoping it will resolve certain issues i'm having.

    I'm following the instructions at

    http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=139313

but after i download the tools necessary, i try to run them and get this:

    .......\SuperAntiSpyware.exe is not a valid Win32 application

Any ideas? This message also comes up now when i'm trying to run any new downloads, such as IE7

    Cheers

    Ian

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Sounds like you could have a Bagle infection. Try renaming SuperAntiSpyware.exe to SAS.EXE and see if it will run. If not, just continue on with the other steps and come back to it later. The same applies to all steps.

    Hi, thanks for the reply.

Ok, i've renamed SuperAntiSpyware but it still doesn't load / run. This goes for everything i downloaded except Spybot search and destroy. I've run this but it says it never found anything malicious.

    Any ideas?

    Thank you

Did you rename the other installation programs too as suggested?
Are you having a problem installing the programs? Or is the problem with running the programs after they have been installed?

Did you try booting in safe mode to install/run scans?

Did you really try to run MGtools?

I want to make something clear so you understand how important it is to get some of the scans and logs to us. If you really cannot run anything and get us some logs, you only have the below alternatives ( and you should backup all your personal data and anything else you need ASAP)
    • try to get System Restore to work to restore to a point before the problem began, but typically these infections will break System Restore.
    • try a Windows repaid using your Windows Boot CD.
    • If you do not have a Windows boot CD, you will have to use a System Recovery CD or Recovery partition that your PC manufacturer supplied to return the PC to the state it was shipped and this will erase all your own personal data, configurations, settings,....etc
    • Reinstall from scratch! Which again requires a Windows bootable CD/

I've tried everything. I've renamed, moved, downloaded onto usb stick and tried from there. Tried in safe mode.
I havn't got a recovery CD. I'm overseas and am responsible for a network of 12 pc's (although i'm not a computer expert, how does that work lol ).

What is it that is preventing anything from starting eg, HJT, SAS, anything?

    UPDATE:

I have managed to download and run VUNDOFIX and SPYBOT. Neither scan found any infections. Hope this sheds some light on things.

    Cheers

    I repeat the below question
If you cannot run anything, your only options are what I already listed.

I just downladed it again and tried to run it. This is the message i'm getting:

    C:/MGTools.exe

Only part of a ReadProcessMemory or WriteProcessMemory was completed

Okay it sounds like you are not having malware problems. It looks more like either a hardware isssue or a software issue. I suggest that you post in the Software Forum and provide them this error message. You may have to perform a repair of your Windows installation. If after getting Windows Repaired and you still have malware issues you need to work on, you can come back to this thread to continue working the cleaning procedure.
