When you burn photos to a Sony CD-RW & you want to rename the pictures, how do you change the 'read-only' attribute to something that will allow me to rename? The only msg I ever get is that the file cannot be moved, changed or renamed.

Re-write the disc with the proper filename?

Maybe someone else knows a way, but I don't think you can change the disc's contents on the fly like you would with a file on your hard drive.

When you use a cd-rw to write files to there are two ways to do it. One is to just keep erasing the disk and then writing files to it just as you would a cd-r, this way the files end up just like on a cd-r with the attributes locked and you can't add more files to it or change them.

Its only when you use a rewritable program like InCd for Nero or Sonic's DLA that the disk is formated so it can be used like a floppy disk. Then you can rename files and change things to your hearts content.

Also it should be noted that when you copy files to a cd-r or to a cd-rw with the first method mentioned, that all the files on the disk end up with the attributes set to ReadOnly. So if you copy those files back to the hard drive they carry the ReadOnly attribute with them and you have to manually change it or use a program which will change the attributes of files or an entire folder or directory for you or you can't rename them either.

For instance, say you copy a folder with jpegs to a cd-r, because there on a cd-r they get tagged ReadOnly. Later you copy a few from the cd-r back to the hard drive to edit them but your photshop will not save the file, only save a new one with a new name, thats because the files you copied from the cd-r copied with the ReadOnly Attribute set. If you right click their properties and turn off the ReadOnly then you can save over the originals again.

Thankyou Appzalien for taking time to answer. Really helps to know that eventually that attribute can be changed.
