I have been having the computer lock up for no known reason lately.
I have an amd quad core 9950 2.61ghz, 6 gb of ram.
I am usually not running that many things when it happens, sometimes just firefox.
I run Eset Smart Security 4 and Winpatrol.
I have run malware bytes, adaware, pc bug dr & tunue ups.
    I am obviously missing something!
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thank You

when did you put this computer together? it could be overheating. You can check all your fans (cpu/gpu) and the temps to make sure you arent overheating.

I put this system together in February. I had very little problems until I wiped and re-installed upgrading to XP Pro X64.
    System temp is around 100F
I did upgrade my fans, have 3 small and replaced processor fan with a Zalmon.
The 3 small all have low/med/high settings so I use them on high.
I will check my air flow again though to make sure they are pushing the air through.
    Thank You!!

Sorry!!! :-o I'm a newb here and should have known better!

As for the security and av software, I only run eset all the time. The others I run the scan then turn it off.
    I haven't found a better 64bit firewall/av than Eset.

    Thanks!!

Thanks for the input! I did clean it up a bit yesterday. I removed most of the programs that you mentioned. THe Eset program has Anti virus/anti spam on it so I don't run anything else.
Before I started cleaning things, I got the Blue Screen of death.
    With the error below
    Stop: 0x0000000A (0Xfffffadf6f303010, 0X0000000000000002, 0X0000000000000001, 0Xfffff80001007fcb)
    IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

I googled and found that it is saying a kernal driver or something along those lines.
I'm going to keep cleaning and see if I can uncover the offending software.
    Thanks for all your replies!

    Thanks!
I did most of that yesterday and haven't had the blue screen today
(yet <G>) so I am going to do exactly what I was doing yesterday when I got the screen and see if I can re-create the error, if not then I think I got it fixed.
    So I'm crossing fingers

I couldn't re-create the blue screen, which is good, but I still have the lock up problem and the screen blinks on occasion.
Just wondering if I need to just chuck it and go back to xp 32 bit.
    Or maybe upgrade to 7?
I don't know but I spent a lot on this system to have it doing this.
    Thanks for all your help!

Had I known when I was building the system, what I know now, I think I would have skipped the 6gig of memory! LOL
It's been nothing but trouble trying to find programs that will run on a 64 bit system. My xp home x32 was better than this <G>
I may still upgrade, I just saw it on Amazon for $114.00.
I have heard nothing but good things about it so far!
I may wait just a few more weeks for the tech groups to review!
    Thanks!!

Well, I did the upgrade! I do love it! You are right! LOL
Unfortunately I took the problem with me!
Now I get freeze ups intermittently, when it feels froggy I guess!
This is the error I get now:
Kernel Power, Event Id 41, Task Category 63.

I'm stuck! I've run every diagnostic I can, removed each bank of memory and tested them separately. I've checked every driver, every firmware update, every win update and even checked to make sure my BIOS was u to date.
    I got nothing else!

ANY ideas would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks!!

    Thanks for everything!!!
